New West officially announced "This Old Road" with a press release including the track list of the new CD. It features Kris on guitar and harmonica, as well as former Borderlord Stephen Bruton on guitar and mandolin and producer Don Was on bass and piano.
Cameron Strang, president of New West, said the CD's March 7, 2006 release date is a sort of milestone for him and the label.
"Since I founded the label in 1996, I have wanted to make a record with Kris," Strang said. "I feel honored to be working with him."
The songs, which vary between apparent new songs and rerecordings of older ones, "explore love, gratitude, aging, war and freedom," according to the press release.
The list appears below, with my comments in parenthesis following some of them. I presume those without any comments are brand new.
1.
This Old Road (Originally recorded on 'Repossessed')
2.
Pilgrim's Progress 3.
The Last Thing to Go 4.
Wild American5.
In the News (Kris played this in a number of his solo concerts in the past couple years)
6.
The Burden of Freedom (Originally recorded on 'Borderlord')
7.
Chase the Feeling (Kris sang this quite a bit in concert and on TV in the mid-1990s - its title has been mistakenly reported as "Ain't We Handsome When We're High" previously)
8.
Holy Creation9.
The Show Goes On (I believe this is one of the handful of gems that appeared in the movie 'Songwriter' for all of 30 seconds and somehow never made it to the soundtrack)
10.
Thank You for a Life11.
Final Attraction (Another 'Songwriter' song, this one did appear on the soundtrack release.)
• Kris' new CD on New West Records will be officially titled "This Old Road" and is set to hit stores March 7th, Billboard reports. That means it probably features a rerecording of Kris' song "This Old Road," which was originally released on 'Repossessed.'
